It really is pretty amazing how much better I feel if I take the time to paint my nails.

I give you giant rubber, acid trip tassle, may double as whip, keychain.
Allow me to explain:
Earlier Today…
I went to Walmart. There I found this giant bag of pink, orange, and blue rubber bands while looking for a crazy amount of gold safety pins. (FYI they don’t have them). I liked the colors, and the whole enormous bag was around $5 so…
Crafting. Challenge. Accepted.
Lately I have been looking for a non lame keychain. I, like so many people, suffer from an inability to remember where I put my keys frequently. It’s seriously challenging for me, so I decided to make my own key chain. If success is measured by how impossible it will be for me to loose my keys NOW vs. Before Walmart, then this is an INCREDIBLY successful craft.
Heres how I did this! Continue reading
Actually lets MAKE some shoes would be more appropriate. So there are these Jeffrey Campbell shoes I like, however I don’t have 300 dollars to spend on (let’s be honest with ourselves) pretty ankle breakers soooooooo. I bought these kicky little knockoffs at Targét. They are a smaller platform which is much more my speed and with the help of some 97 cent for 70 nickel push pins from walmart I shall have my hearts desire in no time.
real thing = around $300
My version = base shoes $29.95 + 10 packs of pins = $39.65
I WIN!

Yeah I have a social life. Why do you ask? Coconuts+Puff Paint = Awesome
I started with wanting to make a pattern on my notebook, then made a mask on bristol board, then realized I had been saving the coconut husks from my favorite frozen dessert and went a bit crazy. I modeled them after mexican wrestling masks but some of them took on a more tribal look.

iPad Magazine Art Direction from Brad Colbow on Vimeo.
So Rup wants the iPad and until now I have kind of been over it. Not because I don’t think it’s cool, obviously as an apple product I covet it, but because they are expensive and I don’t really see the point.
As a editorial designer though, I am now seeing a whole new way to express the printed word in digital form. I use Issuu.com for webzine at work and at play but the iPad brings this often problematic idea to a whole new level. With the online publishing often we get a contrived picture of what an actual magazine looks and feels like but this format eliminates the weird highlight and shadow, the strange cropping at the top and bottom to mimic the real life version. Checkout the video above for not only the insight but also the way the design can fluctuate from print to web. This is something that is already prevalent in terms of the relationship between published piece and the corresponding blog/website, but this really does seem to move backwards from the ever popular 3 column editorial site to the more stylized DOUBLEtruck format sans the pages and the “middle man.” (binding)
