Make Love Not War

Spider and Fly update…

picture-51

I said I would and I am so don’t bug me about it. Get it? Cause it’s about bugs? Anyway, here is the updated version of my The Spider and the Fly cover. Admittedly I was not as worried about the cover as I was with what I did inside pre-typography class. In any event here is the new and improved version.

That bitch is everywhere

I am (and I know this is gonna be a HUGE shock) a big fan of the Rosie the riveter. Actually I am a big fan of any government commissioned art from years ago. I am glad this seems to be coming back. My friend Steve was saying I should put my own face on her, and while it actually fits okay I still am hesitant to add it to my site. Not that I am too good for cheesy, I just prefer fancy cheese to velveta. We’ll see.

The Web We Weave

picture-41

I have been mucking through the ungodly task of putting together my website. I am fine with the look of it yet I still have to fine tune it, and make sure I spelled my name right and all that jazz. The galleries are kind of holding pictures at the moment and as is custom I am fighting with the alignment. But hey, at least I can use Rosie again and every time I do one of these things it gets closer to not sucking really hard like it’s predecessor so I guess it’s a win?

At this point my catch phrase is bordering in irony because there is nothing particularly riveting happening quite yet but just wait. I have some hopes and dreams that will no doubt come to fruition after I get through this laundry list of tasks that seem to keep piling up in front of me. Don’t worry though I can do it.

USA NRA. Thing is I know why these targets were made this way… for cops and the military. So this begs the question: Why do civilians buy them?

Because We Don’t Read the Same Book

picture-61

So this is another Post-er. Again I am dealing with our current conflicts.

I was talking to a coworker today (thanks Shalan) about our current situation in the middle east. He said this phrase, “Because we don’t read the same book..”. Profound in it’s simplicity, and ultimately true. Although created years apart, the Bible and the Koran, while being a source of enlightenment and hope for many, are also a source of animosity based upon the perceived teachings they hold. As an individual that choses to respect religion in all it’s forms I chose to NOT emphasize either, as both are valid. My interpretation of using both symbols seeks to initially show beauty in the combination of the two and upon closer inspection call upon the viewer to notice the root of our current conflict. Although it may seem at first I am saying that it is the books as the text implies, it is my opinion that it is “perception”… on both sides that is the root of our conflict.

My apartment is small. But somehow we have cut out a spot for the office. It happens to reside behind 1/3 of our Library. Now I just need my boyfriend Rupert to hang our Lolita poster. I am waiting sir….

The Spider & The Fly

picture-12

When I was little, my mom read to my sister and I a lot. Most of the time she read novels but usually after the story she would also read a poem. Mary Howitt’s The Spider & The Fly was a big favorite. I decided to turn it into a book, using type as the illustration. It’s still one of my favorite things I have made in school and now as a senior I want to re-do it. Will you walk into my parlor?

Beer and Mythology

petes

In my packaging class, we were given the task of finding a product at the local grocery store and re-packaging it. It’s not as easy as it sounds because, especially with food products, there are all sorts of insane standards to make sure that the customer is properly informed about the product. Strangely enough I ended up on the beer isle (I am not a huge fan of beer in general). I chose to re-do “Pete’s Wicked Ale.”

The other Pete’s beers had these super cool images on the front but the Wicked one was, in my opinion, not as successful. Because all the other ones used the face of a female I chose to use Medusa on the package. I also hand drew the type so it looked a little more distressed and viola! My interpretation. Also in a related subject perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate my stance on beer because this one was not half bad!

The Twins…

pic2

I prefer the way old photos look. I almost don’t even care about the fingerprints, dust and scratches. This one is my mom (right) and her twin sister (left) from the 70′s. There is just something about the discoloration that makes them more awesome than anything the newfangled digital contraptions put out.
